Salamah / Great Quoin Island
Location: This island lies in the Straits of Hormuz and is approximately 56nm from Dibba Oman port @ a bearing of 189 degrees
Type of Dive Site: Sloping wall down to sandy bottom. There is a ridge that runs off the South Eastern point. Ridge starts at 11m and runs down to an unknown depth. Beautiful soft corals cover the ridge from 18m and down
Depth: 10 – Unknown
Marine Life: Leopard Sharks galore, Round Ribbontail, Marble and Eagle Rays, Great Barracuda, Giant Trevally, Barracuda, Snapper/Sheri. A great site for big pelagic viewing
Remarks: It’s a long boat ride from Dibba (approximately 2.5 hrs) so it is mandatory to have an emergency action plan for this trip due to its remoteness. Must be dived during slack high tide. If diving the SE ridge, the drop becomes important due to the up-current that occurs on this site roughly 25-40 mins into the dive
